FAQ

How does counting work?

Every puff you log is saved as an event on your device — tap the big button on the counter screen for a quick haptic tick, use "+5" when you've lost count, or correct a mistake by adjusting the count. Your day rolls over at a cut-off you choose (4 a.m. by default), so a late-night puff still counts toward the right day.

How does the taper plan work?

For your first few days, PuffDown just counts — no limits, no judgment — to learn your real baseline. Then it builds a daily limit that steps gently down to your chosen quit date (bigger cuts early, smaller ones near the end). If a few days run over, PuffDown offers to re-adjust the slope rather than give up — the plan bends with you. The taper plan is a PuffDown Pro feature.

What happens if I go over my limit, or slip after quit day?

Nothing bad. Going over is okay — tomorrow's a fresh start, and PuffDown will offer to gently recalibrate your plan. After your quit day, a slip shows up as "X days, 1 slip" rather than resetting your streak to zero. Quitting isn't a straight line; the app is built to keep you going, not to shame you.

How do I log a puff from my lock screen?

During an active taper, PuffDown shows a Live Activity on your lock screen with your count, your limit, and a +1 button — tap it to log a puff without unlocking your phone. You can also add the PuffDown widget to your Home or Lock Screen. Lock-screen counting is a PuffDown Pro feature.

How does the Apple Watch app work?

The PuffDown watch app lets you log a puff with one tap and see your count vs. today's limit right on your wrist. It works even when your watch is offline — your taps merge safely back into the app when it reconnects, with nothing lost or double-counted. The Watch app is a PuffDown Pro feature.

What is the craving SOS?

When an urge hits, tap SOS (on your phone or watch) for a 60-second box-breathing exercise, a five-minute "wait it out" timer, and a reminder of why you started and what you've saved so far. Each craving you ride out is logged so PuffDown can show you your patterns over time. SOS is a PuffDown Pro feature.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or tap Manage Subscription in PuffDown's Settings. The Lifetime purchase is one-time and never renews, so there's nothing to cancel.

How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Open the app, go to Settings → Restore Purchases, and make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID that made the purchase.

Will my data move to a new phone?

PuffDown keeps your data on your device for privacy, so it doesn't automatically follow you to a new phone in this version. You can export your data to a CSV file any time from Settings to keep your own copy.

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings → Delete all data in the app to permanently remove every puff log, plan, craving record and setting from your device. There's no account to delete — nothing ever leaves your phone in the first place.
