Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Nook ("Nook", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Nook mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using Nook, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, display name, and username. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.
- Profile & content. Information you add, such as your bio, avatar, the media you track and rate, lists, posts, comments, clubs you join, and other content you create.
- Communications. Messages you send us for support or feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. Basic information about how you use the app, such as features used and actions taken, used to operate and improve the Service.
- Device data. Device type, operating system version, app version, and a device or installation identifier used for app functionality, notifications, and advertising.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service and its features.
- To create and manage your account and profile.
- To enable social features such as following, clubs, and shared activity.
- To process subscriptions and provide Nook Plus benefits.
- To show advertising to users who are not Nook Plus subscribers.
- To moderate content and keep the community safe.
- To send service-related and, where enabled, push notifications.
- To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
3. Content Moderation
To keep Nook safe, user-submitted content (such as posts and comments) may be automatically screened for policy violations using a third-party moderation provider (OpenAI) before it is published. Content that violates our rules may be blocked or removed.
4. Service Providers & Third Parties
We share information with trusted third parties only as needed to operate the Service:
- Supabase — hosting, authentication, and database storage for your account and content.
- Google — Google Sign-In (authentication) and Google AdMob (advertising).
- RevenueCat — processing and management of in-app subscriptions.
- Apple — App Store payment processing for purchases and subscriptions.
- OpenAI — automated content moderation.
- Content metadata providers — The Movie Database (TMDB), MyAnimeList, IGDB, and Open Library, used to fetch information about movies, TV, anime, games, and books. Your personal data is not shared with these providers.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Advertising
Nook shows ads through Google AdMob to users who are not Nook Plus subscribers. AdMob may use device identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can limit ad personalization through your device settings (for example, "Allow Apps to Request to Track" and the advertising identifier controls in iOS). For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. Subscribing to Nook Plus removes ads.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which removes your profile and associated content from our active systems, subject to limited retention required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
Nook is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can manage much of your data directly in the app, or contact us at the address below for assistance.
10. International Users
Nook is operated using infrastructure that may process and store data in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you consent to such processing.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate, through in-app notice.
